Biography
Pere Monje is director and owner of Via Veneto, the Barcelona restaurant founded in 1967 and associated with the Monje family since 1978. Monje took over the management of the establishment in 2001, succeeding his father, Josep Monje, who had been maître and director before becoming the owner. His career combines restaurant management with a close commitment to gastronomy and to front-of-house and wine.Trained in Business Administration and Management at ESADE and qualified as a sommelier, Pere Monje has developed at Via Veneto an approach to hospitality based on attentive service, product knowledge and the continuity of a restaurant with a strongly defined identity. The restaurant maintains a classically rooted cuisine, with a particular presence of Catalan tradition and dishes that form part of its history, some of them finished or prepared in the dining room in front of the guest.
Under his direction, Via Veneto has maintained its Michelin star, which it has held continuously since 1975. Continuity and the passing on of the profession between generations are two of the defining features of the Monje family's project, one of the historic establishments of Barcelona's gastronomic scene.
