Biography
Nacho Manzano is at the helm of Casa Marcial, the family restaurant in La Salgar, Arriondas, together with his sisters Esther and Sandra Manzano and other members of the family. The project began in 1993 in the house where the siblings were born, which had previously been their parents' bar and family restaurant. Since then, Casa Marcial has evolved into one of the leading names in contemporary Asturian cuisine. Manzano's cooking maintains a close connection with Asturias, its landscape and its produce, taking the region's culinary tradition as its starting point and bringing it into a contemporary interpretation. The surroundings of La Salgar, produce from the Cantabrian coast, local ingredients and work with local producers all play an important role in an approach that seeks to convey the identity of the territory through food.Casa Marcial's history has been accompanied by a constant evolution of its cuisine. The restaurant received its first Michelin star in 1999, its second in 2009 and its third in 2024. The Manzano family also runs other gastronomic projects in Asturias, including Narbasu, a hotel and restaurant in Piloña, 1638 Restaurant & Wine Bar in Villanova de Gaia (Portugal), while Casa Marcial remains at the heart of their gastronomic activity.
