    Diego René

    Biography

Diego René, originally from Alicante, began his career at his father’s restaurant on the island of Tabarca. Realising that cooking was his passion, he decided to train through the Alicante Tourism Department. From there, he moved on to the kitchens of Martín Berasategui and Maria José San Román. After working in restaurants in London, Argentina and France, he moved to Málaga to lead several projects and was named one of the ten emerging chefs of 2018, before joining Beluga as head chef. His Alicante-style rice dishes helped establish him as a leading figure in the city and eventually led him to become the restaurant’s owner. He has received numerous awards, including the Paul Schiff Award for Best Chef from the Málaga Gastronomic Academy and recognition from the Mayor of Santa Pola for promoting the cuisine of Santa Pola. Beluga is currently recommended by the Michelin Guide and holds one Repsol Sun, in the heart of Málaga, with a cuisine that brings together Tabarca and Málaga. Diego also has eight other restaurants in Málaga city, including his latest project, RENÉ, a fine-dining restaurant.

2026-11-04 12:30 2026-11-04 13:15 Europe/Madrid Meridian cuisine Diego René’s Meridian cuisine is a gastronomic proposal that brings together different territories of the Spanish Mediterranean, particularly Málaga, Alicante and the island of Tabarca. It represents a cuisine closely linked to the sea, local produce and the traditions of each area: fish and seafood, rice dishes, salted foods, olive oil, vegetables, citrus fruits and traditional cooking techniques. Its aim is to connect these Mediterranean culinary cultures through a contemporary interpretation. It combines the maritime identity of Tabarca, Alicante’s rice and fishing traditions, and the Andalusian flavours of Málaga. Ultimately, Meridian cuisine represents the Mediterranean as a shared territory: a gastronomy rooted in proximity, memory, sustainability and creativity. Aula Makro
