Biography
Ricardo Bonacho is an innovative and creative educator, researcher and lecturer in the fields of food, design and gastronomy. With a degree in Communication Design and a PhD in Design, specialising in Food Design from the School of Architecture at the University of Lisbon, he has developed an extensive academic and interdisciplinary career. He was an assistant professor at the Faculty of Social Sciences and Technology and at the Online Faculty of the Universidade Europeia, where he directed the Degree in Hotel Management. He was also a visiting professor in the Food Heritage: Identities and Cultures doctoral programme at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Coimbra. He currently teaches at ELISAVA Barcelona School of Design and Engineering, where he coordinates Food Design projects at the Barcelona Food Design Lab. For ten years, he was a visiting professor at the Instituto Superior de Turismo e Hotelaria do Estoril (ESHTE), where he coordinated the Master's Degree in Innovation in Culinary Arts and Sciences (2016–2023) and the Master's Degree in Food Design (2020–2023). He also served as a visiting professor at the Escola Superior de Turismo e Tecnologia do Mar at the Polytechnic Institute of Leiria and at the Faculty of Arts and Letters at the University of Beira Interior.
He is co-founder of the non-profit organisation FORK – Food Design for Opportunities, Research & Knowledge (Belgium) and the Food Design Lab in Lisbon (Portugal). Outside academia, he is Director of Gastronomic Innovation at Imppacto, Catering & Events and a consultant in design and gastronomy, leading national and international projects.
